Whaley Range High School Chooses Liquid Edition to Enhance Their Video Curriculum.

Manchester-based Whalley Range 11-18 High School recently purchased a Liquid Edition system for use in its groundbreaking ‘in-house’ television station, Range TV. The school already has a Liquid Purple video editing system and is adding Liquid Edition to give it even greater capabilities. The school will also use Liquid Edition to make DVD versions of its brochure.

Range TV is broadcast throughout the day to the whole school, keeping everybody fully informed on what is happening there. Every room in the school has at least one television – there are four in the dining room - allowing all staff and students to tune in and watch the daily broadcasts of all the programmes produced in the school.

“Range TV is vital for making sure that everybody is fully aware of everything that is happening in the school all of the time, Assistant Head Teacher Roy Appleby explained. “This is a very big school with some 1,800 pupils, and we don’t have a room big enough for daily assembly which is why we set up Range TV. Our news and magazine programmes, along with notices for the students and staff, can be watched by everybody at any time so nobody need feel left out.”

These programmes include school sporting events, school concerts and musical productions and special shows of guests and visitors to the school. Appleby and his team are also working on video recordings of revision lessons which will be shown at appropriate times of the year during the run up to exams.

In addition making the TV programmes, Appleby is also working on making DVDs of the all important year nine options brochure. “At the moment we make videotape copies of the brochure, which is great as it lets us showcase the school and teachers in detail. But, as more and more people have DVD players, I want to make the brochures available on DVD,” Appleby said. “Not only will it look more impressive, it will also cost a lot less. This is one of the things that attracted me to this system.”
