The TARGA 3100 series uses Pinnacle’s innovative Digital Tether™ interface for I/O. Digital Tether is a means of transferring SMPTE 259M serial digital signals over a parallel printer cable using LVD signaling. This provides a low cost and flexible interface that connects to a variety of breakout boxes (see below). The Digital Tether is capable of transferring 2 input and 2 output video channels simultaneously, each channel being capable of embedding up to 8 channels of audio. In addition the TARGA 3100 has 2 1394 ports, an internal 4 pin and an external 6 pin.
There are a number of different TARGA 3100 cards available with 0 (uncompressed operation only), 1 or 2 dual stream codecs on board. Different codec options are also available supporting DV25, DV50 and the full range of MPEG 2 options including, I & IBP, 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 as well as IMX compatible versions.
